In his past career he was Director-Midwest Region at Finova Realty Capital, Inc., Vice President of The RMR Group, Inc. and Vice President for Tremont Realty Capital LLC (a subsidiary of The RMR Group, Inc.) and President at Tremont Mortgage Trust.

He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and an MBA from The University of Chicago.
