Silkroad brings together musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds to create new music rooted in difference and collaboration. Under the artistic leadership of director Rhiannon Giddens, the organization produces programs and projects that highlight under-recognized cultural contributions and address social issues such as equity, justice, and healing. Silkroad engages marginalized and underserved communities through educational workshops, residencies in schools, universities, prisons, and refugee communities, as well as community programs that bring music into carceral settings. Silk Road Project Inc is a nonprofit social impact organization and touring ensemble founded by cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 1998.
