Vakgebied

National Grid plc is gespecialiseerd in het bezit en de exploitatie van elektriciteits- en gasnetwerken. De netto-omzet is per activiteit als volgt verdeeld:
- transmissie en distributie in de Verenigde Staten (54,8%): elektriciteitstransmissie (eind maart 2022 eigendom van 14.212 km bovengrondse lijnen, 175 km ondergrondse kabels en 399 onderstations), elektriciteitsdistributie (111.513 km distributielijnen en 718 onderstations) en gasdistributie (59.153 km gaspijpleidingen);
- exploitatie van elektriciteitsnetwerken voor transmissiebeheerders in het Verenigd Koninkrijk (18.6%);
- elektriciteitstransmissie in het Verenigd Koninkrijk (11%): bezit 7.216 km hoogspanningsnet, 2.551 km ondergrondse kabels en 347 onderstations;
- elektriciteits- en gasdistributie in het Verenigd Koninkrijk (7.9%): distributie van elektriciteit (89.372 km bovengrondse leidingen, 137.966 km ondergrondse kabels en 189.644 transformatoren) en gasdistributie (7.628 km gaspijpleidingen);
- overige (7,7%): telecom- en interconnectieactiviteiten tussen de verschillende binnenlandse elektriciteitsnetwerken, opslagactiviteiten voor vloeibaar aardgas, enz.
De netto-omzet is geografisch als volgt verdeeld: het Verenigd Koninkrijk (36,3%) en de Verenigde Staten (63,7%).
Op 31 maart 2022 werden de Britse gastransportactiviteiten geclassificeerd als aangehouden voor verkoop.
