Mr. Edward O.

Before founding Sangamo, from 1992 to 1997, he was associated with Somatix Therapy Corporation, a leading gene therapy company, in positions including EVP, Commercial Development and Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to Somatix, Mr. Lanphier was President and Chief Executive Officer of BioGrowth, Inc., a biotechnology company that merged with Celtrix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 1991.
From 1986 to 1987, he was VP of Corporate Development at Biotherapeutics, Inc., and served in the same capacity at Synergen, Inc. from 1984 to 1986.
Before joining Synergen, he was employed by Eli Lilly and Company in the strategic business planning-biotechnology group.
He is a director of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and a member of its Emerging Companies Section.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Cengent Therapeutics, Inc. and Cell ExSys, and was recently appointed to the board of The Biotechnology Institute, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to education and research about the impact of biotechnology.
Mr. Lanphier holds a BA in biochemistry from Knox College.
