National Pensions Reserve Fund
National Pensions Reserve Fund Financial ConglomeratesFinance National Pensions Reserve Fund (NPRF) was established by the Irish Government in 2001 to meet as much as possible of the costs of Ireland's social welfare and public service pensions from 2025 onwards when these costs are projected to increase due to the aging population. The Government of Ireland sets aside one percent of GNP each year to fund this vehicle. Based in Dublin, NPRF is controlled and managed by the National Pensions Reserve Fund Commission which determines and implements the Fund's investment strategy in accordance with its statutory investment policy. The Commission acts through the National Treasury Management Agency, which is the Manager of the Fund. National Pensions Reserve Fund Commission members are appointed by the Minister for Finance. The Commission controls and manages the Fund with discretionary authority to determine and implement the Fund's investment strategy, utilizing external managers to invest mostly in bonds and equities. The fund also invests in private equity and real estate. The NPRF Commission believes that environmental, social and governance issues impact long-term investment performance and is developing and implementing a Responsible Investment policy which will be consistent with the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment, to which it was a founding signatory in 2006 along with some of the world's largest institutional investors. NPRF is also a signatory to the Carbon Disclosure Project, a global mechanism whereby investors encourage companies to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions. | Finance |
