The firm was founded in 1881 and formerly known as Smith & Williamson Investment Management LLP. They changed their name into Evelyn Partners Investment Management LLP when Tilney and Smith & Williamson brands merged into one in 2022. Quilter & Co. Ltd. (Quilter) is the investment management subsidiary of Quilter Cheviot Ltd., itself a subsidiary of Quilter Cheviot Holdings Ltd. in Great Britain. The firm, which traces their ancestry back to 1777, was acquired by Morgan Stanley in 2007 and in 2012, the firm's management and private equity firm, Bridgepoint, partnered to purchase them from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.
