Assaf Harofeh Medical Center is a medical facility that houses a medical library established in 1950. The library is open to use by medical, nursing, para-medical staff, and other center employees. The medical center has a general surgery system that treats over 4,000 surgical patients and 5,000-6,000 outpatient visits annually. The surgery system has centers of excellence in various fields, with specialists providing comprehensive surgical treatment to patients, enabling better professional service by a permanent team of experts in the field. The center also has a gastroenterology institute that diagnoses, treats, and monitors patients with digestive and liver diseases. The institute conducts a variety of therapeutic, invasive, and non-invasive tests and endoscopic tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases in the digestive and liver system. The endocrine institute at the medical center deals with disorders in the internal secretion glands and disorders in the exchange of substances. The institute focuses on osteoporosis and has a wide clinic and an institute for bone density testing, using an advanced device. The institute conducts clinical research for the treatment and diagnosis of osteoporosis and basic research in collaboration with Tel Aviv University.
