Muthwa is currently the Chairman at Universities South Africa and an Independent Non-Executive Director at Curro Holdings Ltd.
She is also a Director at Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, Seriti Institute, University Sports Co., Financial & Fiscal Commission, and a Member of the Human Resource Development Council of South Africa.
In 2018, she became the Vice Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University.
Previously, she served as the Director General of the Province of Eastern Cape from 2004 to 2010.
Dr. Muthwa holds a doctorate degree from the School of Oriental & African Studies and the University of London.
She also has undergraduate degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Fort Hare.
