ICG is an active investor and manages portfolios invested in equity and fixed-income with the bulk of investments in European securities. The firm has no market cap restrictions but focuses on large-caps. ICG's investment process combines top-down and bottom-up approaches. They conduct macroeconomic research on which they base asset and country allocation, and fundamental research for stockpicking. The firm bases sector allocation on the sector allocation of each portfolio's reference index and in relation with the macroeconomic environment. Stock selection takes into account factors such as PER, growth perspectives as well as management quality and strategy. The firm also invests small portions of their portfolios in emerging markets' equity, money-market instruments and alternative instruments, the latter mainly for hedging purposes.
