Dr. Peter Mayerhofer is a Senior Economist & Works Council Deputy Chairman at Österreichisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung.
He has been working in the Research Group "Structural Change and Regional Development" since 1990.
His research focuses on questions of regional and urban economics, the relationship between structural change and regional development, the spatial effects of integration processes and economic policy measures as well as questions of regional competitiveness and its determinants.
He is the author of numerous studies and specialist publications on regional economic policy issues and has many years of experience in evidence-based economic policy advice at the regional level.
From 1986 to 1990 he was a university assistant and lecturer at the Institute of Economics of the University of Linz.
He held lectures in Urban and Regional Economics at the TU Vienna (2005 to 2012), Danube University Krems (2014 to 2017), and the University of Vienna (from 2017 on).
Research stays took him to the Regional Research Institute of the University of Western Virginia and to the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
