Andrea W. Tobias

Andrea Tobias, PhD is Managing Director of the Aquila Consulting Group, LLC, San Francisco where she focuses on developing new models to fund innovation.
She is currently a San Francisco-based Venture Partner/Advisor for Brandon Capital Partners (Australia) and a strategic advisor for the Global Health shares initiative at UC Davis.
From 2007-09 she spent two years as the Portfolio Advisor to Fast Forward, the venture philanthropy arm of the US National MS Society, where she created and launched three new funds and raised $19m to fund them.
Andrea previously was a partner at CMEA Ventures (San Francisco) from 2001 to 2006.
At CMEA, she was part of the life science team that managed the $160m Life Sciences fund V, and helped raise and invest the $300m Life Sciences/IT Fund VI.
Prior to CMEA, Andrea spent four years as an Assistant Director in venture capital for Apax Partners & Cie Ventures (Paris) and Abingworth Management (London), where she focused on the biotechnology, healthcare and health net sectors.
Andrea has also held management positions for 8 years in the US biotech industry and was Director of Strategic Development for Chiron Corporation and Manager of New Research Identification for Genentech.
In addition, she served as the R&D; liaison for foreign subsidiaries in Canada, Japan, and Switzerland.
Andrea has a degree in Physiology/Anatomy from the University of California, Berkeley and a PhD in Endocrinology from the University of California-San Francisco School of Medicine.
