Herbert D. Doan

Mr. Doan is Chairman of The Herbert H.
and Grace A.
Dow Foundation.
He joined the Dow Foundation in 1950, and served as Secretary from 1950 to 1996, and as President from 1996 to 2000, when he became Chairman.
The private, family foundation is the fifth largest in Michigan.
It has assets in excess of $400 million, and has annual disbursements of approximately $20 million.
Mr. Doan is a former President of The Dow Chemical company and a former member of The Dow Board of Directors.
He is also retired from the venture capital business.
He was a founder of Doan Associates.
Mr. Doan is a member of the Board of Directors of Neogen Corporation, East Lansing, Michigan; Chairman of the Board of Michigan Molecular nstitute (MMI), Midland, Michigan; and is on the Board of Dendritech, Inc. a for-profit subsidiary of MMI.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of The Chemical Bank and Trust Company from 1950 to 1992.
Mr. Doan was active in the state of Michigan through his Co-Chairmanship of Governor Engler's Venture Capital Task Force and as president of the Michigan High Technology Task Force 1981 - 1989.
From 1976 to 1982 he served on the National Science Board and was its Vice Chairman during 1981-1982.
He served four years on the board of the Office of Technology Assessment in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Doan served on the National Advisory Committee, College of Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan and is a former member of the University of Chicago Board of Governors for Argonne National Laboratories.
He is a founding Board member of ARCH Venture Fund, Chicago, Illinois; and is emeritus member of the Cornell University Engineering Council.
He is also a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical society and Sigma Xi.
