Dr. Nathan Fiala is a Researcher at RWI - Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung e.V.
His research focuses on growth and development, including work on micro-enterprise development, cash grants, microfinance, business skills training, agricultural supply chains, and community-based anti-corruption programming.
His methodological approaches include randomized control trials and behavioral lab-in-the-field experiments.
He has conducted his research in several sub-Saharan Africa and Asian countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Myanmar, India, and Paraguay.
He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut, honorary senior lecturer at Makerere University in Uganda, and an associated researcher at RWI in Essen, Germany.
He was previously a post-doctoral fellow at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) and has consulted for the World Bank, UN, and various government and ministry offices across Africa.
He received his Ph.D.
in economics from the University of California, Irvine.
